Welcome to my blog on UFC 285, which took place on March 4th, 2023, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event featured some of the top fighters in the UFC, including two championship bouts.
The main event of the night was a heavyweight championship bout between Francis Ngannou and Stipe Miocic. This was a highly anticipated rematch, as the two fighters had previously met in 2021, with Ngannou winning by TKO to capture the title. Miocic was looking to reclaim the belt and prove that he was still one of the best heavyweights in the world.
The fight started off cautiously, with both fighters respecting each other's power and waiting for the right opportunity to strike. Ngannou landed some heavy leg kicks early on, while Miocic was looking to establish his jab and keep the distance. In the second round, Ngannou landed a huge overhand right that dropped Miocic and followed up with some vicious ground and pound to finish the fight.
Ngannou's victory was a statement to the rest of the heavyweight division, as he showed that he is one of the most dangerous strikers in the sport today. It remains to be seen who his next challenger will be, but one thing is for sure: Ngannou is a force to be reckoned with.
The co-main event of the night was a women's flyweight championship bout between Valentina Shevchenko and Lauren Murphy. Shevchenko was the heavy favorite going into the fight, and she proved why with a dominant performance. Shevchenko outstruck Murphy in every round, landing several head kicks and body shots that hurt her opponent. Shevchenko also showed off her grappling skills, taking Murphy down multiple times and controlling her on the ground. In the end, Shevchenko won by unanimous decision, retaining her title and cementing her status as one of the greatest women fighters of all time.
Other notable fights on the card included a lightweight bout between Justin Gaethje and Rafael dos Anjos
and a welterweight clash between Kamaru Usman and Michael Venom Page. Gaethje and dos Anjos put on a thrilling back-and-forth battle, with Gaethje winning by TKO in the fourth round. Usman, meanwhile, continued his dominant run as welterweight champion, outwrestling and outstriking Page to win by unanimous decision.
Overall, UFC 285 was a great event that showcased the best of the UFC. The fighters gave it their all, and the fans were treated to some exciting and memorable fights. We can't wait to see what the UFC has in store for us in the coming months and years.
That's all for this blog. Thank you for reading, and stay tuned for more updates on the world of UFC and MMA.
